Moving meters outside property limits and securing them translates to increased safety and comfort for electricity consumers.
The main benefits for consumers are:
- Conducting periodic meter readings without having to contact the consumer and requiring without their presence.
- Conducting maintenance works concerning the electrical service connection or updating technical data can be carried out without having to contact the consumer and without requiring their presence. Improving the quality of distributed power, given that there is correlation between works carried out to move meters outside property limits and works for the modernization of the low voltage network in the respective area.

Moving meters outside property limits involves modifying the electrical service connection
The cost of the work depends on the length and type of connection and is paid by the distribution operator as part of the designed modernization works. In case the consumer requests individual modification of the electrical service connection, all expenses must be borne by the consumer.
As of 2012, the technical solutions for electrical service connection for new consumers are conducted to consider the location of the meter outside of properties.
As of 2009, CEZ Distributie focused on moving metering units outside property limits. The investment has amounted to RON 80 million. Out of the total of 1.4 million meters mounted in the Oltenia region, more than half are installed outside homes or outside property limits. Works are prioritized depending on the technical status and age of the network, as well as on the quality parameters of distributed power and will gradually include all subscribers in the Oltenia region.
