Corneliu Bodea, CEO of the Adrem group, a services and solutions business for the energy and industrial sector, says that investments in the digitization of energy infrastructure, the development of transmission and distribution infrastructure, smart grid and other components are essential to increase the capacity of networks in transmitting energy from renewable sources to consumers. “If we talk about the very many projects, the tens of thousands of MW, generally renewable energy, which are in various phases of approval, I could say that I am cautious not so much about their financing, which seems to be the least problem, but especially about their sustainability in terms of operation in the medium and long term. As long as we do not invest in the digitization of energy infrastructure, the development of transmission and distribution infrastructure, smart grid, etc., the grids will not have the capacity to manage a proportion of renewable energy that exceeds 30-40% of consumption. Consequently, the projects could be carried out in a number greater than the actual power generation capacity they will have,” said Corneliu Bodea, present at the ZF Power Summit 2023. I believe this because a new trading mechanism has just been introduced, an important intervention in the market, which cancels out a large part of everything that the free market means. It is not necessarily bad, but liquidity is non-existent today and the large suppliers are in a delicate situation because they have not provided much of the necessary energy for consumers, even for this year. \u2666 Things have the potential to become uneasy soon, depending on how the state intends to intervene in the market. \u2666 I believe that the time of easy economic growth, without being based on strategies, without having an intelligent concern behind it, has passed. Romania was far behind the other EU states in terms of industry and this almost eightfold growth of the economy in the last 10-15 years was based on recovering this gap. On the one hand, it relied heavily on cheap energy, an advantage that we have already lost, and now we are about to lose the advantage of cheap labor. These galloping increases in the minimum wage in the economy must be supported by a productivity increase that must be based on modernity, on investments. That is why I believe that the period of light growth has passed. We are heading towards a period in which in order to sustain growth we need to be intelligent. For industry, intelligence means alignment with ESG, including concern for energy efficiency and the way it uses energy and human resources. \u2666 I believe in Romania’s ability to find a place by using resources on a free market, although if we talk strictly about the energy field, it has certain limitations. I notice a tendency, not only in Romania, especially in the EU, of greater state intervention in the economy and industry. I don’t think there should be a special state program for the relaunch of an industry, such as the chemical industry, or if we propose this, we have to return to a planned way of thinking about the economy.
